Prevention is better than recovery

Prevent unnecessary absenteeism with practical employability advice.

Prevention is better than recovery

For many organisations the word absenteeism immediately brings worries. An employee dropping out means not only extra costs, but also loss of knowledge, experience and continuity within the team. The costs of sick leave can rise quickly for employers, on top of the impact on colleagues and daily operations.

But absence is not always inevitable. By recognising signals in time and taking targeted action, many problems can be prevented.

From preventing absence to sustainable employability

In a healthy working relationship, employer and employee are jointly responsible for the continuity of the work. When there are signals that an employee is less employable, experiences physical complaints or struggles to keep up with the work, it is important to start the conversation in time.

The central question then is: what can the employee still do, and which tasks may need adjustment? That is where my role as employability advisor begins.

With my medical background and experience with occupational questions, I map out the possibilities and limitations of both the employee and the work.

The goal of employability advice is not only to guide employees who have already dropped out, but above all to prevent long-term absence. Think of:

  • Adjusting tasks
  • Improving working posture or work organisation
  • Assigning suitable tasks
  • Preventing overload
  • Retaining employees within the organisation

How does employability advice work?

Employability advice starts with a personal and confidential conversation with the employee. I also discuss the situation with the employer or manager to get a complete picture of the tasks and expectations.

Then I carry out a practical workplace examination, looking at:

  • The physical demands of the work
  • The working conditions
  • The employee’s possibilities and limitations
  • Opportunities to make tasks sustainably suitable

From advice to action

Based on this analysis, concrete employability advice follows. No generic advice from a distance, but practical advice that fits the daily work situation.

Good advice only works when it is actually applied. That is why I give practical explanations and instructions, so employee and employer know which steps are needed.

Together we work on a healthy balance between workload and capacity. That way we prevent unnecessary absence and strengthen the sustainable employability of employees.
